Course Description
The Abrasive Wheels course is designed to provide participants with the understanding of the risks and knowledge which control measures are needed to prevent injury and ill-health. Nearly half of all accidents that are resulted from abrasive wheels happen due to unsafe working practices and operator errors. If you work with abrasive wheels then following strict health and safety practices is of greatest importance to protect both yourself and others from harm and injuries.
Aim of the Course:
- Identify the main types of abrasive wheels and their equipment, and understand the hazards and risks associated with them.
- Understand the legal requirements placed on manufacturers, employers and employees for the safe use of abrasive wheels.
- Knowledge on carrying out a risk assessment for the safe use of abrasive wheels.
- Awareness of the control measures needed to reduce or eliminate the risks associated with abrasive wheels. This includes harmful dusts, vibration, noise, fire and electrical risks.
- Understand how to safely handle, store, mount, use, dress and inspect the main types of abrasive wheels.

Did you know that most accidents involving abrasive wheels occur because of an unsafe system of work or operator error. There are obvious dangers of wheel breakage or contact with a running wheel but other, less obvious health risks, such as vibration, noise and dust.
This Abrasive Wheels Course is for workers using portable tools that have an abrasive or cutting wheel, commonly known as angle grinders, cut-off saws, disc cutters or consaws.
Our course satisfies the requirements of relevant legislation and regulations in Ireland (Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (General Application) (Amendment) 2016.
Our Abrasive Wheels Online Course is 1 hour course designed to train employees as soon as they begin work and before they might need to undertake a Hazard Analysis and Abrasive Wheels tasks.
